What Do These Things Have in Common?

They were both found in a restroom at Haywood Mall in Greenville. A collection bin for biohazardous material and a political analysis of President Obama's administration.

Remembering Billy Mays

The As Seen on TV store at Haywood Mall is offering discounts on Billy Mays products. Appropriate I think.

A Little After-Dinner Relaxation

My family and I are at Ridgecrest Conference Center for LifeWay's Worship Leadership Conference. We're having great weather and a great time. My wife and I are relaxing before we have to climb up a hill for about 100 yards at a 45 degree grade to get our two oldest children for worship. LifeWay really should employ a cardiologist! That hill is killer, and I'm not nearly as big as some of these other boys walking around here. ;-)

Sorry for what will be a double post on Twitter. I'm sending this video to both 12seconds.tv and Posterous to see how they each handle it.

The Genius that Is McDonald's

I went to McDonald's tonight to get a hazelnut latte, which isn't a bad substitute in the absence of a Starbucks. Here's how that conversation went down.

"You want that cold?"

"No, hot please."

"You can't get a cold drink hot."

"Lattes can be cold or hot. I want hot."

"You sure?"

"Yes, I'm sure. Thank you."

"I'll make it how you want it, but . . ."

"Great. Thanks. Let me just point you to your menu. You have lattes and iced lattes. One's hot and one is cold. Hence the ice."

"Oh, for real?"

"Yep. For real."

"Aww man! I didn't know that."

"Clearly."

LAD Camp

Yesterday, my son and I came with a few other father/son groups from our church to LAD Camp at Camp McCall. It rain pretty much all day. And by rained, I mean poured. My weather proof raincoat stopped being weather proof about 5:00. The rain held off until just before 4:00 today, at which point the skies opened up and added thunder to the party. As a safety precaution, activities were moved indoors for the rest of the afternoon.

The boys were able to try a zip line and swing. This morning we descended to Little Waterfall (a trek which, along with the climb to the chapel, really should require a physical before you're allowed to try).

I'm really impressed with the efficiency of the staff. Meals are served family style so there's no waiting in line after working up an appetite. The staff is very friendly and they work with the boys very well.

Except for the rain, I'm already looking forward to next year.

Movie on the Square

One of the fun things about living in a small town like Edgefield is that every once in a while we have a movie on the town square. Tonight's movie is Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. The weather is great so lots of folks are out here.

Trying Something New

I'm giving my gas grill the day off and cooking chicken over lump charcoal. My gas grilling skills have improved over the last few years but I had pretty much abandoned charcoal grilling because of the time and attention it takes. I'm really hoping I don't have to make a McDonald's run later.

UPDATE: Well, the gas grill didn't really get the day off after all. It had to come to the rescue of the charcoal grill because the temperature dropped too much to cook the chicken. Adding coal didn't seem to raise the temperature enough, if at all. The meat was on the charcoal grill long enough to get a great flavor, though. I'll keep trying.

Where Do Babies Come From?

The following is a conversation between my six-year-old daughter and my four-year-old son.

Daughter: Where do babies come from?
Son: The hospital.
Daughter: But where at the hospital?
Son: The 'Mergency Room!
Daughter: Nuh-uh! They come from mommies' tummies!
Son: No dey don't!

I have no desire to correct the misconceptions at this point. Ignorance is bliss.

A Little Fun at the Mall

We stopped at the mall in Myrtle Beach tonight and our daughter wanted to have a little fun on the bungee jumper.
